City of North Myrtle Beach celebrates 40th Birthday
Instead, past and present city officials celebrated the 40th anniversary of the 1968 merging of the four beach towns of Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Crescent Beach and Windy Hill that incorporated as North Myrtle Beach.
Speakers included Mayor Marilyn Hatley, City Manager John Smithson, North Myrtle Beach's first city manager, Doug Wendel, past mayor Dick Hester, and others.
The North Myrtle Beach Jazz Band played at city hall's entrance prior to the ceremony, and the North Myrtle Beach Color Guard performed as well.
